In 1993, NASA released images of a submerged landmass, known as Rama’s Bridge, between Dhanushkodi and northwest Sri Lanka. These images, captured by NASA’s Gemini-11 in 1966, revealed a 48 km long strip resembling a bridge. Twenty-two years later, IRS-1A confirmed these structures. According to the Valmiki Ramayana, Lord Rama’s Vanara army, led by Nala and Neela, constructed this bridge to reach Lanka and rescue Mata Sita from Ravana. They used floating stones, believed to be the “Adam’s Bridge,” as they do not sink. Valmiki Ramayana describes the bridge’s location near Rameswaram in Dhanushkodi, where the sea depth matches a river. The bridge, named ‘Nala Setu’ by Lord Rama, is revered in Indian mythology. Over time, natural forces and a cyclone in 1480 led to its partial submergence. Vibhishana’s request to Lord Rama also contributed to its symbolic sinking. Today, Rama’s Bridge remains a sacred symbol deeply embedded in Indian religious faith.
