India is witnessing its crucial phase as people are voting to elect a fresh government in the country. The third phase polling is ongoing in 93 seats across 12 States and Union Territories. The entire exercise will culminate in seven phases in 543 parliamentary segments. In the process, the phase-wise notification is issued by the Election Commission, which announces dates of polls, filing nominations and withdrawing papers.
The nomination papers are handed over to the returning officers, who are usually the District Magistrates of the respective constituencies. The candidate hands over his nomination papers to the poll officers while standing in front of his table while the latter never stands up while receiving them, be it the Prime Minister who is filing his nomination. Well, the insights in this regard have been provided by the former ECI SY Quraishi while talking to Jagran.com.
