This year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and France. Historically, the two countries have made splendid civilizational achievements, building a bridge of communication between the East and the West. In 1866, the Foochow Arsenal was established in what is today the Mawei District of Fuzhou, the capital of southeast China’s Fujian Province. It was later transformed into the Fujian Naval Academy, the first Chinese French-style university, which introduced Western science and technology, promoted exchanges and mutual learning, and had a significant impact on the politics, military, education, science and technology, diplomacy, ideology and culture of modern China.
